✖️Muscles aren’t manly✖️ lifting weights will not make you look manly or bulky or huge. Can lifting make you look hella strong and jacked? Yes. HOWEVER if bodybuilding is your goal, that takes EXTREME dedication, eating in a calorie surplus, and a huge time commitment as well as mental strength to do. If you want to gain weight, and build an insane amount of muscle with the chance of looking bulky or “bulking”, weight training and a calorie surplus make it possible. However, somehow this MYTH has been created that no matter what, if a girl picks up a weight she will turn into the Incredible Hulk and will be termed “manly” looking. 😤😤😤 if you are eating in the maintenance calorie zone and weight training, you won’t gain the extra fat from a calorie surplus, and instead you will be building muscle. This muscle in turn will eat your fat, making you look leaner not BULKIER.

I have been weight training for 3 years now. I haven’t really followed a specific routine or progressively overloaded throughout the years consistently. Instead I lift to maintain muscle, and build on the existing muscle. I’ve always had bigger arms from gymnastics so I had a solid base to work with when training upper body. My booty/legs were a different story. They were pretty frail from playing sports all my life with limited weight resistance training. I have been putting in consistent effort for 3 years to build muscle in those areas, and I certainly have but it is a slow process and requires a balanced diet and consistency. You will not, and I repeat YOU WILL NOT automatically resemble a “man” (whatever that even means) when you lift. NOR SHOULD THAT EVEN BE AN INSULT FOR A FEMALE IN THE FIRST PLACE. ✖️please for the love of god just pick up some weights so you can prove to yourself just how IDIOTIC this “lifting makes you manly” myth really is✖️

The short answer is no, it can’t. There are way too many things that go into getting injured - both acutely and chronically.

The long answer, however, is that while it cannot necessarily prevent you from getting injured, it can likely minimize the potential or risk for you to get injured.

This meta-analysis from 2014 took a look at a variety of studies looking at different training programs and how they related to decreasing injury risk.

The findings are pretty clear in showing that the narrative of stretching pre and/or post activity is needed to not get hurt aren’t really supported in the slightest.

Call us a broken record, but strength training does a whole lot more for you than make you ‘big and bulky’.
