This is me clutching onto a opponent in a heavier division. Strength doesn’t help with these bigger kids. This is where it becomes the chess match😌. Here the hooks are in and I’m digging in a deep lapel grip...the setup begins. So fun! Love this sport #bjjkids #geminasports

Overcoming obstacles in life equals growth and strength of character. We all have our struggles but identifying them and doing something positive about them makes us realise we can make changes for a better outlook and ultimately a better life.
Last Thursdays No Gi classes at Gemina Kelmscott reminded me of that as I see the difference in how some of these kids and adults saw themselves when they first walked in here to start their training to how they are now. Such an awesome feeling knowing I'm having a positive influence and impact on peoples lives πŸ˜ŠπŸ’•

Was awesome to get back and share the mats with the crew at New Breed Mixed Martial Arts & Fitness while we were in the US in Dec 2018. These guys are always so welcoming and there are no easy rounds when it comes to rolling. Thanks for looking after us yet again! πŸ‘ŠπŸ₯‹πŸ€Όβ€β™‚οΈπŸ˜Ž

A simple truth in life is that effort goes a long way. Most of us aren't naturally talented at everything and need to put our energy into the things in life that we are passionate about or want to succeed in. Things may not always go our way from the onset but in the process we push ourselves to our limits and succeed in more ways than originally intended as growth is always a consequence of challenges we are determined to overcome.
Tuesdays classes were full of people of all ages doing much the same. Pushing themselves and achieving awesome results. Super proud of them all πŸ‘ŠπŸ˜Ž

So ya wanna learn closed guard, first you need to learn how to recover guard from bad positions, next you need to learn how to retain your guard, using concepts like framing, facing your opponent, knee to elbow, replacing arm frames with knees or shins, off balancing and not to wait until its too late to put up our roadblocks. Recovering and retaining guard allows us to spend as much time as possible in closed guard, because only spending time in closed guard is going to get us good at closed guard.

If you want to get good at something, you have to do that something as much as possible, as best as possible.

Who knew Muay Thai guys could smile, i thought they could only do tough poses πŸ˜‚

Nice light sparring last night, trying to differentiate between touch, light, medium and hard sparring; you dont need to beat the crap out of each other to learn... you need to be able to spar with people of all sizes, dont come to training looking to win, only to learn.
