Death Valley in February is a good place for we Northwesterners to hide out for a while. The Mesquite Sand Dunes there are one of my favorite places to just sit and look and look. #roamanddiscover #deathvalleynationalpark #canon5dmark3 #landscapephotography

It felt odd to be wearing rain gear in Death Valley's sand dunes but it had been raining steadily for the past hour. For brief moments sunlight would find a break in the clouds. I got distracted watching this other photographer in the distance haul a large format camera up the tallest ridge. Hope he got an exposure he liked.

❀How amazing is the texture of this sand? Do you guys like deserts? I adore it! Walking in the sand is like walking on a giant silk bed sheet💛 These sand dunes are located in Death Valley, which is the hottest place in North America. So it’s not surprise there is about 30 ᵒC in March. Once in Death Valley make sure to stop here and enjoy that feeling like you’re the only person in the world...❀

Went looking for those cool mud cracks for a foreground and found one spot overrun with a photography workshop or something, so went down the road a little farther to see what I could find. Well, there was a reason 20 people were all huddled up in that one location because I walked around for over an hour and didn’t find any. But I liked these smaller dried waterways flowing everywhere from previous flooding and thought they made good lines into the distant mountains. .

After a few blessed days with no cell reception, I’m happy to report that we survived camping in Death Valley! It was an amazing trip, in spite of — and in some cases because of — the first 24 hours of rain that was so unusual in the driest spot in North America. We’ll be sharing photos taking you through our trip in the next few days, starting now with our drive to the park...⁣
⁣
From where we (and many Southern Californians) live, it’s a similar distance to drive into the park from either side. So we decided to head in from the east and head home from the west so we could check out new sites along both routes.
⁣
After passing the world’s biggest thermometer and alien-filled cars that we’ve seen many times in Baker on the way to Vegas, we set out on the wide open Highway 127. We stopped to check out massive Silver Lake dry lake bed, which is filled with lovely cracks and where we unexpectedly found this boat hanging from a power pole! We also cruised through Shoshone, where we had to take a photo with the brightly colored “Crossroads of the World” sign. Just 59 miles to Badwater Death Valley from here! But we had to make one more amazing stop along the way... More photos coming soon!

Las Vegas is a concrete jungle. However, there is plenty to do outside the city! Take yourself, family or friends to explore how beautiful nature is, leave the WiFi behind and enjoy the natural beauty around us!
Here are some ideas: Mt. Charleston, Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, hot springs (there’s lots around Las Vegas), Grand Canyon Zion National Park, Bruce Canyon National Park, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Swipe right to see some gorgeous photos of the natural beauty that surrounds us!

Happy Saturday💚🌎☀️

I will never get tired of watching sunsets. This was taken in #mesquiteflatsanddunes in #stovepipewells. #stovepipewellsvillage is an oasis in the desert and just 1 minute drive is this beautiful sand dunes. The dead tree adds more character to it. Do you know that Stovepipe Wells is also near #area51? We even saw a stealth plane flying under a regular plane to keep it under the radar. At night we saw the #internationalspacestation passed by the dark skies.

The salt flats change all the time. Salt crystals expand and push their nyRoadsway between mud cracks sketching strange patterns on the surface of the salt flats. Passing rainstorms wash off windblown dust and generate a fresh layer of blinding white salt.
